I’m sure all of us in our heads have an idea of who we would like to see out of the club and who we would like to stay at the club. Well I have, with the help of my mate Sait transformed the ideas from my head in to an actual list. The list compiled is of the whole senior squad currently at the club as well as those who are on loan elsewhere. Marked beside the names of the players is whether we think the player should ‘stay’ or ‘go’. In some circumstances ‘maybe’ is used when I can’t make up my mind over what would be beneficial for the club. The idea is very Football Manager Esq; see how many you agree with.
Wojciech Szczesny – STAY – Best Keeper we have had since Jens Lehmann, destined to be one of the best in the world.
Lukas Fabianksi – GO – Calamitous Lukas, unreliable cover always has a cock up somewhere up his sleeve.
Manuel Almunia – GO – Tried to get rid of him in the summer, no-one wanted him, speaks volumes in itself.
Vito Mannone – MAYBE – He has looked decent on loan at Hull, still very young could be number 2 to Szczesny next season.
Bacary Sagna – STAY – One of the best right backs in the world, missed him dearly in his period of absence.
Carl Jenkinson – STAY – Showed some potential in a difficult start to his Arsenal career, very quick for a big man.
Keiran Gibbs – STAY – If Keiran can keep fit then he surely will be England’s number one left back and a valuable asset to the club.
Andre Santos – STAY – Looked shaky at the start of his Arsenal career, but improved quickly, also missed in his period of absence.
Laurent Koscielny – STAY – you’d have to do well to name a Centre Back who has played better than Laurent this season. He has come on leaps and bounds.
Thomas Vermaelen – STAY – With Thomas and Laurent at the back we actually look decent at the back. Vermaelen is Mr Dependable himself.
Johan Djourou – GO – Johan has been very poor this season, last season he did well, shocking this season.
Per Mertesacker – MAYBE – Slow start to his Arsenal career, still not convinced, could provide experienced cover to Laurent and Thomas.
Sebastien Squillaci – GO – Looks out of his depth in the Premier League, surprised he wasn’t sold in the summer.
Ignasi Miquel – STAY – Looked promising in his few appearances this season, surely one for the future.
Theo Walcott – STAY – Theo has been overshadowed by Alex Chamberlain in recent weeks, has a lot of work to do, still a useful player to have.
Alex Chamberlain – STAY – The best Arsenal player of 2012 so far. Has so much to his game and the scary thing is that he can still improve.
Aaron Ramsey – STAY – Aaron has done well in his extended run in the team. A few poor games along the way, but has shown enough potential.
Jack Wilshere – STAY – Jack has been missed dearly this season, his injury has been a hindrance to the squad, when he comes back we will definitely be stronger.
Abou Diaby – MAYBE – When Abou is fit and on form, he is absolutely unstoppable. However being fit and on form only comes a few times for a year Abou. As Sait says, only Arsenal fans know how great Diaby can be.
Mikel Arteta – STAY – A decent summer acquisition and has settled in well. Provide great stability and experience in midfield.
Alex Song – STAY – Song has still so much to improve on as a holding midfielder, sometimes I feel he would be better suited in a more attacking role in the centre.
Tomas Rosicky – MAYBE – Tomas has done well in recent weeks, unfortunately for him, injuries have struck him down, and if he can stay fit then he is a useful player to have. Recently signed a new deal at the club.
Francis Coquelin – STAY – Showed huge promise this season in the centre and at the unfamiliar position at right back, surely putting the heat on Song next season.
Yossi Benayoun – MAYBE – Looked decent when he has played, can’t see him signing permanently as an Arsenal player.
Andrei Arshavin – GO – I for one can’t wait for Arshavin to leave, he has been extra baggage for the last few years.
Gervinho – STAY – Gervinho has looked decent, needs to work on his final ball, next season will be his year I’m certain of it.
Emmanuel Frimpong – STAY – The Wolves loan experience will serve Emmanuel very well, next season he will come back a more mature player.
Denilson – GO – Never hit the heights we thought he would, surely he will be one his way out in the summer.
Henri Lansbury – MAYBE – Talented young englishman, not really been given a chance at the club, I personally feel under Wenger he has not future at the club.
Robin Van Persie – STAY– Arsene will do well to keep him if we finish outside the Champions League places. Best striker in the world right now?
Marouane Chamakh – GO – Has been disappointing for the last year, short of confidence and hasn’t chipped in with enough goals.
Ju Young Park – STAY – Haven’t seen much of Park, but what I have seen has been decent, looks more of a threat than Chamakh.
Carlos Vela – GO – Another promising individual who hasn’t fulfilled his promise; I think Carlos’ game is more set to Spain.
Nicklas Bendtner – GO – No way back to the club for Nicklas, surely on the next thing smoking out of the Emirates.
Kids to look out for next season
Benik Afobe – Huge promise, some label him as the next Ian Wright. A born goal scorer, who could be the answer we’ve been looking for.
Chuks Aneke – Tall, Quick and strong creative midfielder, will see plenty of him next season either on loan or in cup games.
Ryo Miyaichi – The loan spell at Bolton will be a great learning curve for Ryo; hopefully will serve him well like it did for Jack.
Joel Campbell – Would have been involved in the first team set up this year if it wasn’t for work permit issues. He has looked impressive on loan at L’Orient.
Karl Bartley- Highly rated Centre Back, who can also play in midfield; he could play his part next season.
Damien Martinez- Young Argentine keeper, who has been impressing in the Reserves, could push his stake for number 2 keeper next season.
Room for improvement
- A reliable number two keeper to provide cover for Szczesny. (Michel Vorm or Damien Martinez)
- Another centre back that can provide quality cover for Laurent and Thomas. (Kyle Bartley, Phil Jagielka or Simon Kjaer)
- A winger who can provide a quality final ball and push Gervinho, Walcott and Chamberlain for a start. (Mario Goetze, Andre Schurlle or Eden Hazard)
- A versatile centre midfielder who can give us a composed presence we have been missing this season. (Yann M’vila or Marvin Martin)
- A forward to push or maybe even replace Van Persie and provide goal scoring cover. (Joel Campbell, Seydou Doumbia or Demba Ba)
I can pretty much guarentee this is NOT what Arsene Wenger is going to do for next season, however as I said it is just an idea which has been circulating in me and Sait’s heads. Thanks for reading, make sure you leave plenty of comments and feedback, it will be interesting to hear any contrasting views.
